General Layout
The layout of the website is such that the user is able to Tab through all of the options to navigate through the website easily.  This has also been thought out carefully due to the fact that the user is able to Tab straight to the Navigation section rather than having to select through all of the images and other items on the page. This is exceptional in the case of the enquiry form pages, where tabbing control is assigned to the form elements.
Accesskeys
Accesskeys have been used throughout the navigation of the website to allow users who are not able to have the complete use of their mouse or find it difficult when navigating through a website without the use of a keyboard.

For this reason, the website uses a system called Access Keys which allows the user to use ALT and the corresponding first letter of each webpage’s name and confirming this action by pressing Return or Enter in Internet Explorer and holding down Ctrl and the corresponding letter on a Macintosh computer.  For example, if a user wanted to access the Homepage of the website, he would hold down ALT and press H and then confirm his selection by pressing Return or Enter.

Image Zooming
Throughout all of the photographs that appear on the website, the user is able to move the mouse cursor over the image to see the photograph in more detail which helps those people with poor vision.  The user is also able to zoom in and out and alter the size of the zoomed-in area using the controls outlined below.

UP – Increases the zoom level
DOWN – Decreases the zoom level
LEFT – Increases the size of the zoomed-in area
RIGHT – Decreases the size of the zoomed-in area

Form Labels
Labels have been used on all of the elements of the contact form so that the user is able to simply TAB through the options and boxes with minimal use of the mouse being required.  This also helps to fill out the form more efficiently but also helps with those who find difficulty in navigating through a website with a computer mouse.
Form Tab Index
A tab index has been applied on the enquiry and other types of form on the website which allows the user to tab through the various fields of the form including the Submit button through the use of the TAB key on their keyboard.  This allows the user to use as little mouse clicks as possible as well as allowing for those users unable to use a computer mouse.
General Links

The colouring of the background colours of links have been created in such a way that the link is highlighted clearly by a red on white background or through the relevant style applied in the stylesheets for High Contrast and High Visibility.  This issue is also addressed upon the user using the “Page Style” links, which allow them to adjust the colours used on the website in general which uses three different external stylesheets for formatting.

Standards Compliance

The website has been developed in line with various regulations and requirements outlined under the W3C CSS and W3C XHTML guidelines.

To view the compliance results, please click on one of the following images for XHTML and CSS.

Browser Compatibility
The websites has been tested on all major browsers to ensure that the design displays correctly in any type of browser, as well as complying with recent changes and trends within screen resolutions.  The website has been optimised to comply with the restrictions of the 1024 x 768 resolution which is now the most commonly used screen resolution for Internet users.
Text Sizing
A feature of text resizing allows the user to apply their preferred text size to the entire website as well as being able to view images on the website more easily and clearly through the use of holding down the CTRL key and scrolling using the wheel on the user’s computer mouse.  The user is also able to apply their standard Text Size setting using Internet Explorer’s own tool in View > Text Size and selecting a size to suit their needs.
Page Styles

Page Style customisation has been used extensively throughout the website so that users are able to suit their preferred colours to their needs. This is an important and prominent tool for visitors of the South West Shadows Club website, since it means that poorly-sighted users are able to customise colours of borders, background colours of images, link colours and rollover colours and the addition of table and border colours which can aid them to view information more easily.

Below are the icons and their relevant descriptions.

Default Colour Style
High Contrast Style - Dark text on a light background
High Visibility Style - Light text on a dark background

Link and Image Tags
This features a simple description displayed upon positioning their cursor over a text link.  This also gives more information before selecting the link.

The website also takes advantage of Image Alt Tag descriptions, which allows the option of a description in place of an image if it is unable to load with the description giving enough information to fully describe the image without the use of graphical elements. This feature is also useful if the option of images is disabled in the user’s Internet browser.
