What time do club meetings start?
Club meetings at the Exeter Court Hotel usually start at 2pm, with a Novice Session kicking off the meet.
Can I come along even if I don't play?
Of course! We encourage any members of the public to come along and listen (or play, if they wish). All people are welcomed with open arms and a warm cuppa!
Where are the meetings held?
The meetings of the South West Shadows Club are held at the Exeter Court Hotel, Kennford. For directions please see the information page
Do you all just play guitar?
A majority of the club do play guitar. However, we do encourage people to come along with a whole manor of instruments whether it be drums, keyboards or even a lute! We have even had a pedal steel guitar at one of the meets!
What is the "Novice Session" at the start of every meeting?
The Novice Session is a chance for those who feel a little unsure of their playing. It also leaves the rest of the club to make all the mistakes for you!
Are refreshments available at the meetings?
We do have tea and coffee making facilities and biscuits; however if you are looking for something a bit more substancial, the Exeter Court has it's own restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere.
Will I need my amplifier, p.a. speakers, minidisc player and other equipment?
We have all of the equipment available including a Minidisc Player, CD Player, P.A. System, a large library of backing tracks including drum tracks as well as a range of amplifiers and other equipment which you are more than welcome to use. All you need to bring is your instrument and choice of tracks if you wish.
Do you just play Shadows music or can I play anything?
We welcome all types of music, not just Shadows! Many of our members also play tracks from The Beatles, Jan Hammer and Justin Hayward. We even perform "Jessica", better known as the theme to the popular motoring tv programme "Top Gear".
Do I have to pay a subscription to be a member?
No, a monthly amount of £5.00 is charged if you attend to cover the cost of our room for the day, with the excess going into club funds to cover any further costs. If the meeting is your first time playing, it's FREE!
Where do I find out where the meetings are held and also the dates themselves?
The latest club meeting date can be found at the top of every page of the website as well as on the dates page. Information on where that particular meeting can also be found there.
How long are the meetings?
We generally keep to a 2pm-7pm timescale at the meetings, although this is likely to fluctuate according to the season. If in doubt, please contact us for further details.
How do I contact the club?
You can contact the club through our enquiry form or if you require any direct information, please use the contact details shown at the bottom of every page. You are also able to sign up to our "monthly" newsletter which will keep you updated with all happenings within the club.
